When the temperature and humidity levels skyrocket in the summer months, I break out the bikinis and sandals. And as soon as the hot summer sun is replaced by a brisk autumn breeze, my fall boots, sweaters, and scarves come out storage. While it seems obvious that you should change your clothing when the weather changes, most people don’t realize that you should also change the beauty products that you use in your daily routine. Today I’m sharing five of my favorite ways to update your fall beauty routine.
Add Moisture to Your Skin Care Routine
As the temperature cools and the humidity levels drop, your skin needs more moisture. When your skin isn’t properly moisturized, you’ll noticed that your skin feels tight and looks flaky. Plus, you’ll noticed your wrinkles becoming more prominent. The solution to dry skin is simple: add moisture any way that you can. Switch to gentle cleansers, use moisturizing and plumping serums, and amp up your morning and evening moisturizer choices. If you don’t want to switch to a different moisturizer, you could consider adding a drop or two of facial oil to your moisturizing creams. After supplementing your fall skincare routine with extra moisture, you’ll quickly notice that your wrinkles will look less severe, and your foundation will look smooth and even.
Embrace Warm-Toned Makeup Colors
If you’ve noticed that your go-to lipstick from summer just isn’t working for you this season, it probably doesn’t have anything to do with the lipstick. Fall fashion normally focuses on a palette filled with neutrals and jewel-tones, and warm-toned makeup looks beautiful with the traditional fall color scheme. Trade your bright pink lipsticks for nude, berry, or red tones and perk up your complexion with mauve blush and golden highlighters. When you’re looking for fall eyeshadows, search for copper, gold, burgundy, orange, red, and brown shades. This warm color palette looks beautiful on all skin tones, and it will match your fall wardrobe perfectly.
Choose Gentle Body Care Products
As I mentioned early, our skin tends to dry out during the fall and winter months – and not just the skin on our face. Consider switching out your harsh body cleansers for moisturizing formulas and use thick body butters in place of oil-free summer body lotions. One of my favorite gentle body care products is Dove Dry Spray. I’ve purchased almost all of the Dove Spray varieties over the years, but this fall I’m loving the Nourished Beauty scent. This dry spray deodorant keeps you fresh and dry throughout the day, and it keeps your delicate underarm skin moisturized in cold weather. Unlike some of the other deodorants I’ve tried in the past, this formula contains 1/4 moisturizers and won’t irritate your skin. If you’re looking for a new fall deodorant, definitely pick up a bottle of the Dove Dry spray during your next trip to Walmart. All of the scents are beautiful, and the texture is perfect for the fall and winter months.
Add Face Oil to Your Foundation
While it’s important to update the makeup products that you use in your fall beauty routine, that doesn’t always mean that you need to buy more makeup. There are quite a few ways to tweak the formula of your makeup to fit the weather conditions. One of my favorite ways to make any foundation work for cold and dry conditions is to mix in one to two drops of facial oil. The color of your foundation won’t change, but it won’t look dry or cake-y on your skin. If you’re not a fan of facial oils or just don’t have a bottle in your collection, you can also try adding a dollop of your morning moisturizer to your favorite foundation. The additional moisturizer will make the foundation apply like a dream!
Finish Your Makeup with A Bold Lip Color
My fifth tip for updating your fall beauty routine might be the most obvious, but in my opinion, it’s definitely the most fun! During the autumn months, take a break from the pale nudes and pinks of the warmer months and add a bold lip color to your daily makeup look. While a deep berry or bright red lipstick may seem intimidating in the tube, I promise that it’s not as scary as it may seem! A bold lip is the easiest way to add personality and a trendy vibe to any fall outfit, and I guarantee that the additional color will breathe life into your complexion. My favorite lip shades for fall are dark nudes with a brown or mauve-toned base, deep berries, mid-toned purples, and any and every shade of red. Please try out a bold lip this season. You won’t regret it!
